He was commissioned at Aviation Officer Candidate School, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL in September 1975, designated a Naval Flight Officer in July 1976, and as a Naval Aviator in August 1983.

Jeff Aken
Cascade Agenda Cities
Project Manager

Jeff works directly with cities, seeking flexible policy solutions and creative partnerships that allow for well-planned growth. These partnerships focus on ways a community can grow and enhance the quality of life while maintaining a unique identity. This work includes both public outreach and innovative policy development. His work has focused on how cities can preserve the quality of life while accommodating future growth in walkable, healthy neighborhoods.

Jeff has worked closely with citizens to shape future growth, most recently working with the City of Tacoma neighborhood councils and citizen groups about the need for careful planning.

In addition, he has worked in the City of Sammamish; performing outreach around a potential Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) program. Prior to working for the Cascade Land Conservancy, Jeff worked for the University of Washington’s College of Forest Resources.  Jeff has a Masters in Urban Planning and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Washington.

2007 MEETINGS

Community Forum - Nov 7, 2007

Click on the links below to view video portions of the meeting.

Don Nielsen - 17 minutes, 38 seconds
Lee Lambert - 16 minutes, 23 seconds
Question and Answers - 38 minutes, 55 seconds

To see if we could make our meetings more convenient for people who work during the daytime, we held out final Shoreline Community Meeting of the year on the evening of November 7, 2007. Beginning at 7:00 p.m. that evening, we addressed the topic of “GREAT Education As A Community Competitiveness Strategy: Part II.” And to help get into the right frame of mind, we met at the nationally-renowned Auto Center on the campus of Shoreline Community College.

SCC President Lee Lambert was joined by education expert Don Nielsen from the private-sector to help lead discussion about secondary and post-secondary education. Among other topics, we asked our guest experts about how well our secondary schools prepare our kids for college and for the job market; why so many experts say we spend more -- and get less -- from our educational system than other nations; as well as what we can do to improve education at the elementary, secondary and college levels.

President Lambert and Mr. Nielsen were uniquely qualified to answer these and other questions that are important to you.
